Nandadulal Bairagi, Ph.D.
PROFESSOR OF MATHEMATICS

“Exploring unknown from the knowns”
I am a professor of mathematics at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. I completed my master's degree with a specialization in operations research and earned a Ph.D. in mathematical biology from Jadavpur University. Before joining Jadavpur University in 2001, I served as a Lecturer at Serampore College, Hooghly, and Dum Dum Motijheel College, Kolkata. I have led the Centre for Mathematical Biology and Ecology since 2008 as its coordinator. With my other colleagues, I established the Biomathematical Society of India in 2008 and served as the founder secretary till 2017. I have received several honours, including the UGC Faculty Recharge Program (FRP) in 2014 and the UGC Research Award in 2015. I was also awarded the INSA Bilateral Research Award twice, in 2014 and 2017. I served as president of the Mathematical Sciences (including Statistics) Section of the 106th Indian Science Congress from 2018 to 2019. More recently, I was honoured with the Outstanding Research Award by Yonsei University, South Korea, in 2022. To date, fourteen students have completed their Ph.D. under my supervision. I have successfully led ten national research projects funded by ANRF, DST, SERB, CSIR, and UGC, as well as one international collaborative project with France. My research interests span mathematical ecology, epidemiology, metapopulation dynamics, delay-differential equations, reaction-diffusion systems, nonlinear dynamics, discrete dynamical systems, ecological networks, and systems biology. I have published over 100 research articles and one undergraduate textbook on mathematical biology.
